Haavaldsrud Sawmill Reconstruction Updated Completion Date

Delays in the reconstruction project have made the initial start-up date of January 28, 2007 unobtainable. The rescheduled date for start-up is now March 12, 2007. The company and the project managers are making every effort to insure that this is achieved.

Haavaldsrud Sawmill Reconstruction Update

Reconstruction and refurbishing efforts are continuing at our sawmill facility that was damaged by a fire on July 11, 2006. The target date for the resumption of production on our Chip & Saw line is January 28, 2007. Below are some photos taken during the week of November 19 to 25, 2006 showing the state of the project at that time. Currently a top priority is to replace damaged metal support beams and the roof and wall panels. In the meantime critical components have been sealed with tarps for protection from the elements. Check back for further updates.

Haavaldsrud Sawmill Damaged By Fire
On Tuesday the 11th of July 2006 at approximately 17:00 hours a fire started in an electrical room near the carriage production line in the sawmill. Despite a quick response by both the local Hornepayne Fire Department and the White River Fire Department the initial attempts to contain the fire were unsuccessful. The fire continued to burn off and on into the next day before it was fully extinguished. That resulted in significant damage to approximately 30% of the sawmill building in the area of the two primary breakdown lines and sawmill offices.

As a result of the damage we at Haavaldsrud Timber Company have had to suspend all sawmill and woodlands operations until repairs to our production facilities can be completed. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our employees and customers for their understanding and patience during this difficult time. We are committed to keeping the length of this disruption to a minimum. We would also like to thank both the Hornepayne and White River Fire Departments for their courageous efforts and the Town of Hornepayne and others for their support.
